This book is about Whiskey Rivers who is a romance writer that is attending the MMM signing event with her bestie Stormy Knight. Whiskey has been dealing with writer's block for a while and decided to head to Texas Creek a couple of weeks before the event to try and get inspiration to write her next story but things don't exactly go how she planned. While in town she met Jackson Salvador by being saved from him when she was a witness to a crime. Jackson is the Don of the Texas Creek Mafia and not one to mess with. He keeps a tight reign on his operation and likes to set examples so others know not to mess with his family. He's had peace for a couple of years now after ending a war with a rival family. So of course, since everything's been quiet something has to start. Jackson never wanted to ever bring a woman into his life or his family business and Whiskey shows him how wrong he can be but it doesn't come without consequences. People in Jackson's life are betraying him right behind his back and Whiskey gets caught in the middle. It was hard reading that part of the book and what happened to her. Warning now this book has triggers. Does Jackson save her in time? Does Whiskey love Jackson enough to change her entire life for him?
I gave this book a 4-star rating and a 4-spicy rating. At times it was confusing to read because there are multiple POVs and takes a bit to realize who is talking or whose thoughts your hearing. That was frustrating at times but not as much as other books I've read with the same issue. And the sexy scenes were just that with Jackson being the alpha dom he is, it was hot. I'm definitely glad I gave Roux Cantrell a try and I will be looking for other books she's written. This book is a standalone and the 1st in this series. If you like this book I recommend checking out Linny Lawless' Ambitious Bastard from her series in the Mayhem Makers.
