Told in first person.
Aspects of the plot would not fly today (housekeeper, treatment of laborers), but the basics of plotline and characterization are timeless. Listener is kept in suspense over the reasoning for happenings, as well as determining who are good guys vs bad guys. Denouement is startling and most unexpected!
Ms. Acitelli brings it all to life! She is able to differentiate characters well, and portray their emotions clearly.
This book was gifted to me in exchange for an honest review… (plus d'informations)

Three people, a man, his brother and his cousin, live in misery in an isolated cabin in a wilderness, guarding a secret and smothering their passions in resentment and frustration. Into this unhappy household stumbles a beautiful young girl, suffering from snow blindness. And what do you think happens? It gets worse!

The power of descriptive language doesn't come to the fore until the characters have broken away from their accustomed lives. The second half of the book is full of inspirational phrasings.
I'm glad I read this again.

The noble savage comes to terms with the East. Phrasing and language are to be savoured.
