I enjoyed this holiday adventure, set on inviting Rottnest Island. Here's my review for the CBCA.http://readingtime.com.au/to-the-lighthouse/

Miku and her family have relocated from Japan to England. Miku's grandmother has passed away and now there is no one to protect the family from spirits and demons. Well, it turns out that demons who have a score to settle with the Takeshita family have followed them to England. One in particular has kidnapped Miku's little brother, Kazu. It is up to Miku and her friend Cait, who is Irish and knows about spirits and such, to get Kazu back and defeat the Nukekubi.

It is a fast read and just enough scare to appeal to a middle school reader who want to read something scary. It is good to see that there is a heroine rather than a hero that saves the day. She and Cait are clever and are able to overcome their fear to save Kazu and get rid of the horrifying demon who can separate its head from its body.

There are a few illustrations and interesting information about spirits and demons that are of Japanese origin. This is book one in a trilogy the second one is Filth Licker. If you have readers who want scary novels and want something they can read quickly, this will be the trilogy for them.

Miku Takeshita knows she's in trouble when her substitute teacher turns out to be a nukekubi and when Japanese demons kidnap her baby brother Kazu, it's up to her and her best friend Cait to break into their snow-blocked school and get him back.

Takeshita Demons – One for the kids who need to graduate from Manga comics, and with a Japanese heroine for the girls. Miku has moved from Japan to England and her parents have become slack at keeping the “old ways” that prevent the demons from attacking their home because they are in a new country and believe these rules don’t apply. But Miku knows better and suddenly discovers her relief teacher is not all she seems to be. Funny, quirky with a touch of horror that kids will love.
