This book provides helpful hints for many outdoor activities parents can provide for their children. Most are focused on joint activities where the whole family participates. I found the majority of the discussion just common sense/ However, the remainder of the hints and discussion were new to me, making the book worth reading. Many activities are covered, and for all ages of children from infants through young adults.

Given that they managed to pull this journey off during the 1980s, when things in the former Soviet Union were...interesting in different ways than they are now, I was intrigued enough to start this book. The progression of difficulties they encountered, and their developing friendships, were what kept me engaged. Whether your interest is armchair travel or in a detailed account of river travel, it's an engaging and informative read.
