Oh wat hou ik van deze stickerboekjes. Ik heb er al een aantal maar dit is mijn favoriete: eentje boordenvol regenbogen, elfjes, feeën én eenhoorns! En dat in de Pride maand; hoera!

Voor wie deze reeks nog niet kent: elk boekje is een verhaal met tekst en prachtige, schattige tekeningen én achteraan vind je nog een aantal stickervellen zodat je de tekeningen nog mooier kan maken. Je kan de stickers op de juiste pagina kleven, wat ik zelf een heel rustgevende bezigheid vind. Of je kan ze gewoon kleven waar je zin in hebt. En/of je kan ze ook gebruiken voor leuke projecten buiten het boekje. Ik doe meestal beide: ik kleef er in het boekje en de resterende gebruik ik om brieven, kaartjes, schriftjes, mijn dagboek te versieren.

Regenbogen is een feest voor jong of oud en voor beiden samen. Geniet ervan! Kleur de wereld mooier!

Na ‘Alles over diversiteit’ hebben Brooks en Ferrero weer een prachtig, boeiend, hedendaags, divers en maatschappelijk belangrijk boek voor jonge kinderen gemaakt.

In dit geval hebben ze het over zorgen en angsten. Het boek is bedoeld voor jonge kinderen die het samen met hun ouders lezen. Achteraan staat nog extra informatie voor de volwassenen. Kinderen leren dat piekeren en bang zijn iets is dat iedereen overkomt, dat het niet erg is. Maar dat er niet over praten het groter kan maken. Ze leren waar het vandaan komt, wat ze er tegen kunnen doen (ademen, knutselen, naar buiten gaan) en hoe er over praten helpt (geen ballonnen op een feestje bijvoorbeeld).

Het boek is duidelijk, informatief en nergens betuttelend of neerbuigend. De mooie tekeningen vol diversiteit maken het boek tot een wereld waarin iedereen zich wel ergens in kan herkennen. En ook voor volwassenen is het nog heel intreressant om te lezen.

Zo blij met deze belangrijke reeks en ik hoop dat Brooks en Ferrero ons nog veel moois te brengen hebben.

Een groot boek, een groots boek.
In dit prachtige prentenboek leren kinderen én volwassen over diversiteit. Iets dat we moeten vieren in plaats van te vrezen.

We leren over alles waarin mensen kunnen verschillen: de taal die ze spreken, of ze veel of weinig haar hebben, wat ze eten, hoe ze zich kleden, welke soort gezinnen er bestaan en nog zo veel meer. ‘Alle soorten diversiteit’ komen aan bod staat op de achterflap, dat is lichtjes overdreven maar het komt wel in de buurt. Dat is net het mooie aan diversiteit: ze is zo divers dat het opsommen ervan oneindig is. Alles kan en alles mag.
Geweldig dat een boek voor kinderen deze boodschap zo prachtig verspreidt. Prachtig in woord, beeld én boodschap.

Een boek dat in geen enkele klas mag ontbreken. De vele onderwerpen vormen de perfecte aanleiding om kinderen zelf aan het woord te laten en diversiteit in de praktijk te beleven.

This book is about max and Millie learning to share toys with each other. They start by not wanting to share and then learn how sharing can make each other happy. Ages 1 to 4 years old. Pierce college library and in class presentations.

A little boy does not like to share. Millie try's to take turns and it doesn't work. Their teacher comes up with a great idea to promote sharing within the classroom. The children end up forming a friendship.

Boring for parents but two year olds love these flap books.

I find this one fairly blah. I don't know what it needs but it needs more.

The illustrations are delightful and though there aren't any words, the book provides opportunities for the reader to develop a sharp eye and to draw conclusions from the pictures.

Science of the ocean and all in it. Great for knowledge. Grades 2-5

A story about a puppy and what it does all day. A good touchy feeling books for toddlers with a woof sound chip.

The World of Shakespeare by Anna Claybourne. Age: teen-adult. Library section: 12 E: Teen, Nonfiction. While not a religious book, I included this book in our library for teens who usually meet up with the study of at least one play by the great bard of Avon in high school. This book with exciting illustrations and photos covers Shakespeare’s family history, Elizabethan beliefs, London life of that era, Elizabethan theater, the Globe theater, and Shakespeare’s plays – the tragedies, comedies, “problem” plays, histories, and romances. It discusses Shakespearean language, Shakespeare plays through the ages, acting and directing styles, performing Shakespeare, costumes and how they are made, and short synopses of many Shakespearean plays. The book is chock full of drawings – schematics of the Globe, for example, old prints, time lines, as well as photos of modern day actors in costume and make-up such as Dustin Hoffman, Anthony Hopkins, Judi Dench, and John Gielgud. At the end there is a glossary of Shakespeare characters. This book is chock full of very interesting information.
If there is one thing that will prepare our teens for college and life in general, it is to read as much Shakespeare as possible because so many college literary discussions assume they have read at least five or six of Shakespeare’s plays. Shakespeare is also important because it presents so many life situations in which characters are forced to make choices for good or ill. The results of those choices – comic or tragic – are what make Shakespeare so important and so relevant, even today. Some of his plays are bawdy, merry romps while others probe the deepest depths of the human psyche. Greed, murder, humor, sentimentality, love, ghosts, poisonings, suicide, scheming – they’re all here. There are many film versions to spur our interest, too, from Mel Gibson’s Hamlet, Zeffirelli’s Romeo and Juliet, and Taylor-Burton’s The Taming of the Shrew, to Shakespeare Broadway spin-offs like Kiss Me, Kate and West Side Story, and the opera Otello.
Shakespeare (b. 1564) still lives through his plays today. That can’t really be said about many other people born in the Elizabethan era except for perhaps, Martin Luther, who was born even earlier in 1483. Both men’s work changed the world in profound ways.
This book has spurred me to read some more Shakespeare. I think his plays resonate with us as we get older – they seem to become easier to read and ponder, even without Cliff’s Notes! Their themes are universal which is why they are so appealing. If you have the opportunity to see a Shakespeare play performance, do go see it. If you are in London be sure to visit the rebuilt Globe Theater. My kids say it is awesome. It’s on my “bucket list” – something I want to do before I kick the bucket.

Wow. I really thought I'd enjoy reading about King Arthur and the Knitghts of the Round Table. Mostly all the tales blurred together and all seemed to be sort of the same thing over and over again. This edition is only 130 pages but it took me forever to read and that is unusual for me.
