Insightful and honest..sometimes brutally so,this book is so much more than the horrors experienced by a boy who became a young man during the Nazi reign of terror. It's mind-numbing for the reader at points..i truly do not understand how survivors could possibly return to so-called 'normal' life without hatred and disgust permanently lodged in their hearts. Perhaps memories are compartmentalized and locked away to maintain some semblance of sanity? "I acknowledged that rage to live, so deep within me. To survive all this meant to have a life, and it meant that Hitler would not win."
