Thank you Alibi via NetGalley for the free Kindle e-book [b: Maggie Dove's Detective Agency: Maggie Dove Book Series #2]. This is in exchange for an honest review.

I did enjoy reading [b: Maggie Dove's Detective Agency|29776867|Maggie Dove's Detective Agency|Susan Breen|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1475864726s/29776867.jpg|53134586], by [a: Susan Breen|1406362|Susan Breen|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1449366884p2/1406362.jpg]. I am an older woman that appreciates a geriatric female protagonist. Her business partners; Agnes and Helen are interesting characters.

This book stands alone well enough, but I think I would understand the business relationship at the agency better if I read #1.

At first it seemed as if Agnes had more authority and ownership of the business, and just named it after Maggie. Agnes seemed bossy, and scattered, and I never knew what to expect from her character.

Maggie Dove is still mourning the loss of her only daughter, and I have a firsthand understanding of that sorrow. Others want you to "get over it." I applaud [a: Susan Breen|1406362|Susan Breen|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1449366884p2/1406362.jpg] for showing the importance of grief, and that there is a time frame of loss for each person.

The mixture of witchcraft vs Catholicism vs mainstream opinion was at odds in narration - in my opinion.

Maggie's affection for Helen's raging, violent child was another part that did not seem to jibe with me. Would Helen and or Maggie tolerate a child running and launching himself at an elderly woman, taking a chance on a dire injury?

It seemed like the author had much to say, and tried to fit it all into book 2, when perhaps a 2.5, would help with the complicated subplots.

This novel was well written, and I may update this after reading Book #1.

Thank you.

This was a quick read and the 2nd in the Maggie Dove series. I struggled with Maggie's struggle with witches. It seemed a bit forced in spots. I loved how she was getting more independent and really taking ownership of being a detective. Thanks to NetGalley for providing a copy in exchange for my honest review.

This book was a nice, charming, cozy mystery. Maggie Dove is a relatable character, who used to write mystery novels for a living. Given her background, I thought she would be more suspicious of the too good to be true man, but she has been out of the game for a long time. I thought Agnes was a good balance to Maggie's goodie two-shoes type character. More cynical and suspicious, which balances Maggie's trust in humanity. I think this series will develop well over time. I plan to read more of this series as it comes out. I received this book for free as part of the Random House Mystery Chatpack through Chatterbox by House Party for my honest review. #RHMysteryPack #Sponsored… (plus d'informations)

I am in love with this new mystery series from Susan Breen. Maggie Dove features it's namesake, Maggie, a Sunday School teacher turned detective, as she tries to uncover the truth about her next-door-neighbor's untimely death at the base of her treasured oak tree. The small town in riddled with likely suspects, as the victim wasn't well liked. Maggie finds that everyone has secrets in the village, including her closest friends. The mystery was believable and had a surprise ending. Characters are believable and well describes, as were the scenes. I really enjoyed this book and hope to see more from this author.

I received an advanced copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
