George Brandon

In Santeria from Africa to the New World, George Brandon examines snycretic religion, Santeria, with an eye on how the process of syncretization occurred. Brandon is as much, or more, interested in the process as he is in the religion itself. Brandon sets out to show that a syncretic religion can be valid on its own terms despite the dismissive attitudes of the ‘pure’ religious adherents. Brandon takes an anthropological look at African people: in their original homelands, in the forced transplantation to Cuba and in the subsequent migration to the United States.
