A propos de l'auteur

Melanie Sue Bowles, along with her husband, Jim, is the founder of Proud Spirit Horse Sanctuary, now located in Georgia. Since its modest beginnings in the early '90s on just five acres of land in southwest Florida, Proud Spirit has evolved into an award-winning facility, and it is one of the most afficher plus successful, longest-existing sanctuaries for horses in the United States. Over the years Melanie and Jim have intervened on behalf of nearly 500 horses in need. They currently live with 72 amazing equines, 12 delightful dogs, 2 pigs, and 1 very talkative barn cat. Melanie is the author of two other books that chronicle life at this unique ranch: The Horses of Proud Spirit and The Dogs of Proud Spirit. Her website is www.melaniesuebowles.com. afficher moins

Stories about horses who are rescued (or just retired) to Proud Spirit Ranch. The author starts as a very novice horse owner, but quickly dedicates herself to helping horses. Each chapter focuses on a different horse and his or her story. Only a few chapters are tear-jerkers, but almost all chapters are quite touching. Well-written, enjoyable read. Recommended reading for my horsey friends.

A sweet book about a woman and the horses she takes care of and sometimes saves from drastic living conditions. It reminded me strongly of James Herriot's stories, except from the view of the owner, not the vet. The individual stories were made a little more personal by a picture of each horse (or horses) the story focused on. A nice read for maybe a weeked or a vacation, but not something I'd go back to.
