Influential astrophysicist Boss chronicles how the discovery and investigation of exoplanets has progressed in the past decade, a period dominated by the Kepler space-telescope mission. The ending point is that TESS (Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite) was launched on 2018 Apr 18, JWST (James Webb Space Telescope) should (finally!) be launched in 2021, WFIRST (Wide-Field InfraRed Survey Telescope) should be launched in 2025, and imaging and biosignature investigation of "Prox Cen b" (an Earth-sized body orbiting in its star's habitable zone and the nearest exoplanet to Earth) should not be far off. The politics and "bureaucratics" of how this endpoint was reached take up much, but not all, of the book. A not-too-long "diary" of the current era (1995-) of detection and assessment of extrasolar planets, with emphasis on such actual and hoped-for space missions as CoRoT, OGLE, Kepler, Space Interferometry Mission, Darwin, and Terrestrial Planet Finder. I just hope that the delays caused by Dubya Shrubbish's appointments of anti-science NASA heads don't end up ensuring that the first discovery of extrasolar life doesn't occur until after my demise.
