Courte biographie
Elsa Andrea Elisabeth Björkman-Goldschmidt trained as a teacher at Anna Sandström's school in Stockholm in 1906-1909, and continued her education at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. During World War I she worked in international relief efforts for children in Russia, where she met her future husband, a doctor. They met again and married when she became director of Save the Children in Vienna in 1919. The rise of anti-Semitism in the late 1930s caused the couple to leave Austria and settle in Sweden. She published the first of five autobiographical works in 1944. She also wrote novels and biographies, including those of Harriet Löwenhjelm and Elsa Brändström. She also served as the editor of a Swedish literary magazine.
