Amber finds a book that feels similar to her own life. There is no explanation for how Amber finds the book, but the book switches between Amber's character in the present and Freya's written accounts from the 1970s. Initially, Amber is deterred from finding her brother, but as Amber reads, the diary accounts spark further motivation to find her brother. However, her search puts her family at risk of falling apart. The story is descriptive and follows various characters along Amber's search.

From Manchester to the Arctic by Sheena Billett is a heartwarming and motivational fictional piece of work whose action comes to life as the main character reads the words “Wanted. Nurses with a sense of adventure” and the fantastic idea of the author's usage of his wife's journal as an inspiration source for this beautiful story. As Connie makes the bold decision to answer the call for nurses, her journey to the Arctic and interaction with the Inuit culture and people begin.

One of the aspects that I liked about this book is the stages of evolution—mental, emotional, and cultural—that the author puts Coonie through throughout the story. He does a very good job from this point of view. I also liked how he captured the essence of the Inuit culture and described it.… (plus d'informations)

I really enjoyed From Manchester to the Arctic by Sheena Billett. It is a beautiful journey of Connie coming of age traveling to the arctic with her nursing experience. It's a delicate storyline with empathy, romance, and humiliation. Nice steady speed through the whole book. I like how Sheena Billett took inspirations from her partners journals, it made the story feel more realistic although it is fiction. This is a beautiful book and I highly recommend it.
