Wish I could date this booklet - from the cover photo around the 1950s, I would guess. All the basic recipes which are still appearing today, with sepia photos. A copy of one of the more recent editions of the Be-Ro book is a sine qua non of any working cookery book collection. The introduction is a delightful period piece : 'The woman who can cook well and bake well has every reason and every right to be proud of her cooking. In ninety-nine cases out of a hundred she has a happy home, because good cooking means good food, and good food means good health. I have two Be-Ro Home Recipe books in my collection. I haven't dated this but from the cover it is 1970s, given to my by a dear neighbour when I was in my teens. I was delighted when my son was provided with a later edition in his school cookery class a few years ago - delivered by a wonderful lady who insisted the kids did NOT need 'Food Technology', they needed to know how to make a good dinner. Hurrah! I will be getting a copy of the latest 44th edition (available August 2011) for my daughter and each of my nieces and nephews. My daughter and I refer to this little 3.5" x 7.75" tome regularly for basic sponge, pastry, pancakes, toad in the hole, etc., each recipe accompanied by a little colour photograph, giving another clue to the era, with free use of glace cherries, angelica and piped cream.… (plus d'informations)
