Cody is grumpy, and doesn’t want to deal with the last remainder of his father's inheritance, the family home in Alaska which needs to be sold. As the story unfolds it becomes obvious the past is still haunting him, and the pain of a father who was never there for him after his wife, Cody's mother, died is still very much alive in his mind. Even though he wants to be anywhere but in his hometown, his presence there slowly thaws the ice around his heart. The man he's found in the attic, Candy, who says he is an elf, has a lot to do with that!
By the time Cody needs to leave, he has become attached to Candy, forgiven his father, and is almost sorry he has to leave the place he thought he'd never want to come back to. But it isn’t until he's back in New York, in his lonely apartment and doing a job he no longer likes, that the truth sinks in. He wants the quiet tranquility of his hometown back. And he wants Candy by his side! And in line with the changes in Cody, the resolution and the ending are truly magical!
If you like stories with a definite touch of Christmas-elf magic, if you enjoy reading about men who have lost their way but, with a little nudging, manage to find it again, and if you’re looking for a cute, very sweet Christmas read, then you will probably enjoy this short story. It totally captivated me!
