Henry C. Barkley

Studies in the Art of Rat-Catching is a forgotten book, but in an unusual way. It has an entry at The Neglected Books, and it's available in the excellent narration by LibriVox volunteer Clive Catterall, so not totally forgotten. More so, it was the basis for Crispin H. Glover's 1999 reinterpretation Rat Catching which had modest success, though few seem to have gone back to read the original.
