Robert graves refers to this type of record as boring, and stilted, and then moves on with the novel called "I, Claudius" as to his mind, a more saleable account of the life of another emperor. The Res Gestae in this edition is a useful teaching tool for an introductory university course in Roman History. It is a useful, but not spritely account.
