The main character Peggoty starts to be made fun of for not having any hair. She starts to wear a wig but seeks approval of everyone around her. The other farm animals help her realize that she is beautiful regardless her hair loss. The book is perfect for teaching onset, rime, and short vowel sounds. There are many activities and ways to incorporate activities for students with this book such as matching rimes with onsets.

In this story Peggoty the pig is confident in herself until she gets made fun of for being bald. Once she starts feeling insecure about herself she feels the need to wear a wig. She looks for approval from the other animals on the farm, but towards the end of the book she ends up realizing that true beauty comes from within. This book is a great way for first grade students to work on onset, rimes, short vowel sounds, and word families. Matching or sorting games that focus on these concepts would be a great follow up activity to reading this!… (plus d'informations)
