In this second book in the series Rae is surrounded by family members who are not all a good influence. I kinda laughed at some of them because it reminds me we all have family that we keep our distance with. What I like about Rae is her compassion and grace. It is hard to show mercy at times, but God wants us to always give it.

The author gives us a great mystery when Ashley disappears. Who is Ashley you ask? Well she happens to be the ex -wife of a family friend. Rae wants to believe the best in everyone and is determined to find out where Ashley is. Of course rumors start swirling about Ashley missing but Rae is on the case.

There is quite a bit of drama in the family and I want to warn readers that some subjects may be a trigger. The author does handle these situations well and faith is at the forefront of all situations. Building or rebuilding relationships can be trying, but Rae learns many lessons that can help each of us. Overall a good book with valuable life lessons.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

A Storm of Doubts by JPC Allen is a Young Adult Cozy Mystery. This book is a Rae Riley mystery. Twenty-year-old Ray Riley finds her summer off to a rocky start. She finds herself caught up between pleasing her father and helping those around her.

With a con artist uncle who returns, a sheriff for a father, and a private investigator for an aunt, Rae finds herself caught up in the drama. The author does an excellent job of building drama and suspense. I loved getting to know the characters and the dynamics between them.

So, if you enjoy cozy mysteries or are looking for a Young Adult Cozy mystery, check out A Storm of Doubts by JPC Allen.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

This story has really good characters and a wonderful ending but I had a bit of trouble getting to the ending. Make sure to get the anthology Christmas Fiction Off the Beaten Path and read the story by this author to know what happened before this book takes place. This will help you understand who Rae is and what she had gone through to get to this family. I received a copy of this book from Celebratelit for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

The first thing that got my attention was the main character worked at a library. I worked at one for fifteen years and have to say it was my dream job. When Rae is describing some of the patrons that visit the library I laughed. There was always this one customer that none of us liked. We each took a turn waiting on her and then went to the back room to scream. The author does an excellent job of making me feel like I was standing beside Rae as she shelved books anticipating who would come up to the counter for help.

I was quite intrigued by Rae and her new discovery of who her dad was. I’m not sure if that was a good thing, since other family members were not as welcoming. That pattern continues in the town as Rae is treated badly but several locals. There is a big mystery surrounding her mother which I couldn’t wait to unravel.

Mal is an interesting character who Rae finds out is her father. After all these years she finally gets to know him. I like that he took to Rae and always worried about her safety. He has good reason to worry since someone is sending her threatening notes. Her mother was not liked in the town and her death seems to be surrounded in secrets. If I was Rae I would tell my dad who happens to be the sheriff that someone is stalking her. Mal has some relatives that are not very law abiding citizens so maybe they are stalking Rae. The author does pique my interest as Rae becomes more suspicious of who is behind the notes. Like her, I jotted down suspects trying to figure out who the guilty person was.

The action is good as danger gets closer to Rae. The faith element is scattered throughout the story and showed how Rae turned to God for comfort. The story picks up speed towards the end and I was anxious to see how it would conclude. I loved how the author demonstrates about forgiveness and how important family is. The relationship between Rae and her father is very special and reminds us that it is never too late to reconcile.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
