Courte biographie
Franklin Robert Adams (August 31, 1933 - January 4, 1990) was an American science fiction and fantasy writer. He was formerly a career soldier. Best known for his "Horseclans" series which he wrote under the pseudonym Robert Adams.

An early pioneer of the post-holocaust novel the Horseclans series exhibit a painstaking and detailed world view with plenty of plot follow-through. Prospective readers should note that many of the Horseclans books are interlinked and may make sense only when read in order.

Hallmarks of Adams' style include a focus on violent, non-stop action, meticulous detail in matters historical and military, strong description, and digressions expounding on various subjects from a conservative and libertarian viewpoint.

Variations on present-day names was annoying, use of extended monologues to convey new information to reader annoying, decided it wasn't worth continuing with.

One straight from the ‘let’s make up a bunch of unpronounceable names’ school of fantasy writing. But on the positive side it was a light fairly enjoyable read and even with it being the 8th book in the series I didn’t feel lost and was able to follow the central plot and action. BUT on reflection this was a tale so full of backstory and exposition that if you took those away and think about the central through line, then you realize that nothing actually happened other than an army moved from one campsite to another!… (plus d'informations)

Reading this series again. The story is cool in a Howard, Conan sort of way. The writing is simple raw and visceral. The made up names of cities and states in the future can be slightly annoying. "Pitzburk, Kharoleenos" It is quite obvious that Adams is a lower denominator writer. But his story telling is effective and as the story progresses the plots gel and the personalities eventually flesh themselves out. It is also quite obvious that the author is not inclined to show pity on ethnicity or sexual proliferation and the women of the tribes are sex crazed piranhas. The action of the battles burn across the pages with a heavy futuristic and dystopian east coast outer banks piraticism. Cliché at best and entertaining.… (plus d'informations)

This is an anthology of stories about (in broad terms) ghosts of soldiers. Many are quite old, including several by Kipling about ghosts of the (Brtish) INdian Army --in one case, a regiment who mutinied in the Indian Mutiny (aka War of Independence) (there is a feebler story on the same war by the Hardwicks) , and one including my favorite character, Terence Mulvany. There is a Manly Wade Wellman story about Confederate ghosts, a story by Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch about ghosts of British soldiers shipwrecked on the Cornish coast and others.… (plus d'informations)
