Minerva Lousie discovers colorful eggs outside on a spring morning. She gathers the hens to take care of them, but they've disappeared! They notice the farmers picking up the eggs, which is what they expect and all is back to normal.

This book wasn't a favorite of mine. It's about Minerva, a chicken worried about the colorful eggs she sees outside. She is worried that the eggs won't hatch without additional help. When she tries to retrieve the eggs, she sees the humans playing with the eggs for their egg hunt. ( )

I'd never hear of Minerva Louise, but stumbled upon this book on an Easter book list. Pretty darn cute, with colorful illustrations, thanks in part to the Easter egg hunt that Minerva Louise gets involved in! ( )

My kids really liked this book. I would put it in a preschool age range because of the simple, brightly colored illustrations and the kids really connect with Minerva Louise. Basically the story is of a hen that finds these colored eggs all around and thinks they are lost from their mother and doesn't understand why. The story is quickly resolved when they see that the children are picking them up and putting them in baskets. Not a great plot, but my preschooler particularly enjoyed it and had me read it a couple of times. ( )
