This book was wonderful and I truly adored it. The world was so rich and interesting, the characters vibrant and full of life, the love story was charming. I can't believe it's not a series, I would love to read the stories of the rest of the pack. Five stars. ( )

This book was great. It is unfortunate that it is a stand alone and we will probably never hear more about the other men in Reule's Pack. But I was totally enthralled with the book and would read it again because it was that enjoyable. ( )

"2.5 out of 5 stars...

Okay. This is exactly what happened while I read this novel...

I was reeled into the beginning of this novel with its intriguing and mysterious buildup over Reule's people (the Sánge who are known as a savage group because they need to have blood while having sex and because of their fangs) and over Mystique (a woman who has run from her past while suffering from physical/emotional trauma and amnesia)."

This review can also be found on my blog.

After finishing the Nightwalkers series to a most satisfying end, I thought I'd take a small break and try one of J.F's stand alone books to cleanse my palette before diving into the Shadowdwellers. Now I don't know if that was a good thing, or a bad thing. Good because I fell in major lust with the Pack of the Sánge and bad because there are no plans to continue this into a series. Well, that just breaks my heart.

The Sánge are despised by many races because of their ritual of drinking blood during sex, among other things, and it has led them to live somewhat isolated from others. However they have a deep seated culture full of honor, and they have struck up some profitable trading relations with a few less judgmental races. The Sánge are all telepathically gifted, and Reule, Prime Lord of the Sánge, is the most powerful of them all.

He shares this strong bond with his Pack, comprised of his closest friends and fellow warriors. One night they're on patrol to eliminate the threat of their enemies, the Jackals. They not only find one of their brothers, but also a young woman, an outlander. Both are near death when they're rescued. Reule can not explain his instant attraction to the woman, who has no memory of who she is or how she found herself in that situation. One thing that seems certain is that she feels a strong tie to Reule and feels safe around him. With nowhere else to go, she has little choice but to stay in their Keep. Her presence tests Reule's control and iron will like no one ever has before. Her lack of memory means that she doesn't have to behave a certain way, so she is free to say what she feels and thinks openly. Before long, Reule and Mystique are both driving each other mad with a fierce need. But what of her past? It must have been traumatic enough to make her forget. Knowing that much, will it tear them apart or will it just not matter in the end?

Mystique was a great heroine. She was kind and understanding, even when faced with skepticism and maybe a little animosity by the other Pack members. What I liked most about her was the fact that she wasn't a simpering fool. She was always quite straightforward with her thoughts and opinions. That made for quite a few amusing moments throughout the book.

"I thought a subtle hint would be more acceptable than bluntly saying I wanted to help so we can finally get around to becoming lovers. Since I prefer the frank and honest approach better anyway--" She broke off and grinned, a flash of white teeth in a soot-streaked face, when the entire Pack all but fell on the ground laughing.

Reule was just grateful he was filthy because he had a feeling he was blushing.

Reule, sweet, gentle, hot-as-hell-in-full-Regalia, able bodied, ...... I think I loved the boyish charms of that man more than anything. He could both be serious and very playful and still come across as the tough leader. The way he cared for Mystique and her well-being was very tender and sweet. The other characters were great too. They each had their own personality that piqued enough of my interest to want to know more about them. Their easy bantering and playfulness made me chuckle a few times as well.

Every last member of the Pack, exempting the traveling Amando, knew he wasn't pleased with their antics, so of course they pushed him. They wanted to see just how far they could go before provoking him into making an ass of himself.

This story has just become another favorite of mine by an author I only discovered over a week ago. I love the different worlds of supernatural beings she creates. I enjoy the plots well enough to keep turning the pages and foregoing sleep. Her male characters are powerful alpha male types, but they're proud of their mates and treat them as equals quicker than what I'm used to. Also, I love that all her female heroines get in the thick of things and kick butt. What makes her characters even more endearing is the humor and strong bonds of friendship. Last, but not least, Ms Frank writes some pretty wicked love scenes .... seriously hot stuff.

Wow, I never thought I'd see the day when a series could topple my love for the likes of the BDB or Midnight Breed. But it's happened. Sadly, Ms Frank's blog says that she has no plans to turn Drink of Me into a series. I'm not above begging, pleading, using voodoo or any other nefarious means to get her to reconsider. I want, no have to know what happens to Darcio, Rye, Delano and Chayne. Will they follow their Prime's example and find something other than Pack business to occupy their time? ( )
