Another great biography by author Scott Eyman. HIs books are so well researched and he has access to so many folks who knew and worked with his subject. This time it is director/producer Cecil B. DeMille. While most of the time, DeMille seemed like a tyrant - he had a vision and knew how he wanted things. He also had a loyal core of workers who stayed with him pretty much throughout his movie making days. The author has interviews from many who knew or worked with DeMille, letters from his archives, and newspaper articles that gives you a good picture of what DeMille was like. DeMille was one of the founders of the motion picture industry and his handling of crowd scenes is extraordinary (I wonder what he would think of computer generated crowds). This book really gives you a good idea of the early struggles of the motion picture industry, the highs and lows, and what it took to get a hit picture out to the public. would have liked to have had a filmography though but highly recommended to any fan of film history.
