#1 Meg, Charles Wallace, Calvin fight IT (evil incarnate) to preserve free will and rescue their father. (5 stars)

#2 Mostly same characters--along with the same silly questions and attitudes. There doesn't seem to be any emotional growth. But the story does include a lot of good physics/metaphysics. Time and size are irrelevant, it's only necessary to "name" something for that something to become meaningful; and they fight a battle of emotions, shrunk down inside Charles Wallace. (4 stars)

#3 More of the same, with maybe a few less silly questions. The difference from the first 2 is that this one is more history lesson (the Welsh in the New World--in New England witch trials and moving to Patagonia. Here we're warned about presuming the worst of other people…now it's Charles Wallace's turn to save the world. (4 stars)

#4 Now it's the twins' turn to save civilization on Earth, by being transferred to the ancient biblical time of Noah and family. L'Engle does a decent job in this story--similar to the prior book--of providing some moral compass for early teens. This time, it's about sex. (4 stars)

#5 [This is from the spin-off series centered on Meg & Calvin' new family] A more mature treatment of the difference between a punitive god and a loving god--for young adults. The daughter of Meg & Calvin gets sent back a few thousand years to a tribe of native Americans being led by expatriate Welsh druids to prevent a war. (4 stars) ( )

This book is great, it is very good at getting a picture in your mind. A Wrinkle In Time also won a John Newbery Medal. I like how they talk about something, say a dimension then they explain about all the dimensions like 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th (1D 2D 3D 4D 5D). The story is very exciting to read. So I recommend reading it, giving a 5 star rating.

This is a story about a girl named Meg Murry who is struggling in her school life and home life. She is teased for her looks, but also because her family is different.

Rumor has it that her father has ran off and that her youngest brother, Charles Wallace, is slow. Meg also lives with her mom, a scientist, and twin brothers, Sandy and Denny.

One day, Meg, Charles Wallace, and Calvin, a boy from school, explored a local haunted house. They are greeted by three women, Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which, each a little odder than the next.

The three women seem to know about Mr. Murry and so the children follow them. However, as they are walking through the forest, something strange happens to them. And I'm going to leave it on a cliffhanger. I hope you liked it. ( )

This review is for the first book of the series. I was disappointed. Very disappointed. I loved this book when I first read it in the fifth grade. It was full of adventure and science. At least, that's how I remembered it. Reading it as an adult, I still found the story to be appealing, but L'engle writes in paragraphs that are overtly religious, and I feel that it breaks the rhythm of the story. At times the dialogue feels contrived, and there were many times, where I just groaned aloud, and wished it all to be over.
I see now why my Catholic school approved this on it's reading list.
There was great potential here for the story to be something amazing, but L'engle ruined it with her religious passages, and corny add ons.
I really hope that the consecutive books are better. ( )

Meg was different from everyone else, so was her brother Charles Wallace. Her twin brothers, Sandy and Dennys were able to blend in. It had been a while since her father had mysteriously left, and there were many stories as to why, and where he had gone. Upon the arrival of 3 friends: Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which, Meg and her brother, along with their new friend Calvin, set out on an adventure to retrieve her father, by using a tesseract. What is a tesseract? Will they find him? Will they be able to bring him home?

A Wrinkle in Time has been a favorite of mine since my sixth grade teachers, Mrs. Greynolds read it & the rest of the series to our class. It has all the qualities of a good science fiction: time travel, strange characters, and a touch of mystery. It starts on a dark and stormy night, drawing you in from the get go.

What do I find as somewhat of a downfall of the book? The end leaves you hanging and wanting more detail as to what happened. Unless you read on in the series, there are so many unanswered questions. So, if you are only up to reading one book, this one is probably not for you. As for me, I will eventually be finishing the series!

If you enjoy coming-of-age novels, and crush/romance story-lines, you will totally get into this book. Every high school girl should read this book. ( )
