Sailing With The Wind is a picture book with vivid, lifelike illustrations. The story is about a young girl named Elizabeth who goes sailing with her uncle Jack from the bay to the ocean. Their adventure intensifies as a storm approaches and it begins to rain. Elizabeth is frightened at first, but she realizes that her uncle will take good care of her. Elizabeth had a wonderful time with her uncle, but was glad when they made it safely back home.

This story reminds me of little adventures I would take with various family members when I was a child. I felt safe with extended family and have good memories of times spent together. No matter how much fun I had when I was gone though, I was always glad to eventually get back home.

For a classroom extension, I would have the children share an adventure they had experienced with different family members. I would also use this book to introduce how smaller bodies of water eventually make their way to oceans.
