Not terribly entertaining or well written, but still interesting in that it tells the story of three young people who are all misfits and are trying to make there way in life after a childhood spent in a children's home. They each have had traumatic and cruel early years before being taken from their parents. There time of regimentation, mental and sometimes physical cruelty and deprivation in the "home" only adds to their problems and it is quite obvious that they are not equipped for life "outside" About the middle of the book I did have some hope that they would survive but it soon became apparent that the book would have a sad ending, and it did. Rien and Mark leave St Mary's Home for Children and start a tentative new life together. While Mark dreams of machines to repair their fractured world, Rien writes stories to help her recover the missing events of her past. When their friend Dog Boy escapes from St Mary's, he embarks on a journey that will dramatically alter each of their lives. In a world that has little time for those who are different, can these three outsiders find a place to belong? In Machines for Feeling, Mireille Juchau displays all the poise and sensitivity that have brought her so much acclaim. This is a mesmerising novel about alienation, friendship, and the power of the imagination to endure. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
