Diann Mills has written a great novel about a half bred woman, part white and part Ute Indian. She always had a way with animals and loved the wild ones. She thought she had it made living in Southeastern Colorado with her rancher husband Charles and a baby soon to be born, when some men came riding up to their home "there were outside" and just started shooting. The men left Charles dead and Sage shot, her father came up and found them and Sage had only been shot in the shoulder but she lost her baby boy. She then went to live with her mother's people for a while. When she left she was determined to find the four that destroyed her live and kill them.

She had been taught all her life about Jesus but she was so bitter she had pushed him aside and she became a very good bounty hunter. She was not giving up until she found the man that killed her family.

When she found one outlaw and carried him to a town in the Colorado Rockies, she met the sheriff Parker Timmons, he had had some problems of his own. The outlaw was broken out of jail and also Parker's brother was killed and his two nephews were being held captive, so they teamed up together to find the outlaws and to try to get the boys back safely.

As they rode the Rockie mountains there ware so many things that happen alone the way, but Sage always had her falcon that she had raised and trained to help them look for the boys. Sage found out that Parker was a Christian and that he prayed all alone the way. She was beginning to remember the things she was taught by her mother's knee about Jesus.

This is such a great novel as always when DiAnn Mills writes, that you will not want to put it down. Page after page you will find something different, a great book.

This book was sent to be by Zondervan Publishers for my review, no money was exchanged.

NCLA Review - Sage Morrow was the wife of a Colorado rancher and expecting their first child. She thought her life was perfect until the day five gunmen rode in and killed her husband. Sage was shot and left for dead, and lost her unborn child. Following this horror she was consumed with the need for revenge and lost her faith. She finally recovered and vowed to find the outlaws who changed her life forever and bring them to justice. Half Ute Indian, Sage went to live with her mother’s people for two years. It was here that Tall Elk taught her the skills of tracking and living off the land, and where she befriended a wounded hawk that grew to be her devoted protector. She became a bounty hunter and set out on a quest that would bring adventure, danger, faith and love. Rating: 3 —DM ( )

The other reviewer has described the book perfectly. I would just add that I've never read many westerns, but I doubt if there is much Christian fiction which read like a western. I went a sought other books by this author even before I was half finished with this one. ( )

Some books have covers that are perfect for their tale. A Woman called Sage is one such book. An Indian woman in Western garb stands thoughtfully staring into the distance while a hawk flies overhead. She encompasses my image of Sage so perfectly that I found myself staring at the book cover, longing to read more, while I worked around the house.

Sage is half-Ute and sought help from her tribe after her husband was murdered. She’s sworn vengeance on his killers and uses her Indian training to become an excellent tracker and bounty hunter. While the thought of a woman bounty hunter might initially seem implausible, the author makes the character and her job entirely believable. And while Marshall Parker Timmons might not immediately be ready to accept a woman’s help, he soon finds himself believing all the tales about her too.

The truth about the outlaws is a little harder to learn, and soon both Sage and Parker are wondering how much to trust of what they hear. Was Sage’s husband the honest man she believed, or is there some dark secret lurking in his past that caused his death? Soon, she’s not even sure if she really knew his name.

Both Sage and Parker keep secrets from each other, each trying not to cause the other pain. Meanwhile the town is rapidly turning against them. Rumors fly—ah how rumors do that—and the local pastor denounces sins that may never even be committed. Rule of law, rule of religion, rule of pride… all come before a fall. But the rule of hope survives them all, and maybe faith is worth more than religion after all. And love worth more than doubt wins out.

The author keeps the mystery and the tension flowing till the end. I really enjoyed the story and characters. And like I said, I even enjoyed the look of the book. ( )
