Ich habe es direkt nach Stevensons "Schatzinsel" gelesen, und natürlich merkt man den Unterschied zwischen einem Großliteraten (der es vielleicht nicht ganz so mit der Nautik hatte) und einem schriftstellernden Ingenieur, dessen Charakterstudien vielleicht etwas hölzern daher kommen, dessen Nautik aber erste Sahne ist.
Was den Leser erwartet: eine Schatzinsel im Pazifik, Meuterei, Schiffbruch und Piraten; ein Segeltörn um Kap Hoorn in einer selbstentworfenen Yacht nach dem (damals) neusten Stand der Technik, ehrenwerte Engländer, schurkige Schurken und eine damsel in distress.
Wer also keine Probleme mit etwas angestaubten Rollenbildern und Moralvorstellungen hat und auch bei gelegentlichem Fallen des N-Wortes keine Schnappatmung bekommt, kann sich dieses gut abgehangene Exemplar der Gattung "klassische Segel- und Abenteuerliteratur" ruhig mal geben. (
