Ce court roman de Michael Chabon est une œuvre pastiche des romans d'Arthur Conan Doyle mettant en scène le célèbre détective Sherlock Holmes. Bien que jamais cité, la présence de ce dernier est indéniable. L'originalité vient ici de l'âge très avancé du héros mais également de l'avant-dernier chapitre du roman qui voit l'apparition d'un narrateur plutôt inattendu. Au final, La solution finale est une œuvre plutôt mineure de Michael Chabon mais dont l'originalité préserve l'intérêt. ( )
