Both characters are wonderful role models: grandpa is sensitive, gentle, and informative, and Philip is persistent, imaginative, and a willing learner. The illustrations, by Emily Arnold McCully, are an excellent mix of soft and bright colors and straight and curved lines, continuing the themes that the text negotiates balancing--structure and flexibility.
