The characters are well written and very realistic. It has all kinds of emotions and feelings like loss, insecurity, anger, forgiveness, and love. Maggie, Jack, and Dillon are brought together through many hardships that seem almost unsurpassable. The dilemmas in Maggies life push the story on and everyone can reminisce and appeal to the remembered or regretted pasts and the chance that some things are no longer a possibility. Jack comes from a good family who gave him the best education and he has made a name for himself. However, no amount of success can help anyone forget about regrets that they have. He has a fianc but is not able to jump into it and then he sees Maggie and knows he cant forgive or forget her and needs answers. They have to choose to work through it in forgiveness and claim back the family, trust, and togetherness. Maggie Doyle is about to lose everything if she can’t come up with the money to pay off the bank. On the other hand, Jack Major is rich and has everything, including the successful woman he is about to marry. But when a chance encounter reunites them, will love really ignite again and defeat not just the present but the past as well? They have one night to find out. So One Night in Boston asks ‘can anything really change in 24 hours? Sure. I went from being interested in this book to completely loathing it in 24 hours. Does that count? Seriously, this book failed in every way conceivable. Let me explain. First – plot. The plot is a rehash of the down-on-her-luck girl meets rich flame from past who she left but still loves, but she is damaged and has secrets and he has everything but he hasn’t gotten over her and still loves her and he must save her from… Whatever. The only difference is One Night in Boston tries to turn this into an episode of the show 24 by – get this – cleaving the chapters into one hour increments. Very original. The trouble is Boniface can only pull it off with a narrative studded with pointless flashbacks. So what we are left with is a cliché wrapped inside of a gimmick. Sigh. But that’s ok, because strong writing can make even the most tired plot interesting. Right? Right? Houston, we have a problem. The problem is that the writing is actually worse than the plot. The dialog is laugh-out-loud silly. Maggie and Jack’s actions have no relationship to the real world at all. I had to sift through grammar errors, weak writing and a ponderous, wandering narration. There was no flow, no style, no hope. Worst of all were the number of facts that were completely wrong. A few examples: partners in private law firms don’t prosecute murder cases, if you follow Maggie’s driving directions you will be underwater, it is physically impossible to… oh, never mind. Trust me, there plenty more. It made me grit my teeth too many times. Two words – fact check! One Night in Boston is a classroom example of what not to do with a novel. Clichéd plot, contrived structure, poor writing, blatant disregard for facts and uninteresting characters. I beat myself silly trying to come up with something positive I could say, but I ended up only with a sore head. This one was physically painful to read. Do yourself a favor and pass on One Night in Boston. The reader you save might be yourself. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
