Archibald Glover, an ordinary man, and his family, arrived in China to experience one of the most terrifying ordeals of the 20th century. The Boxer Rebellion of 1900 left almost 50,000 Christians dead. The horrifying stories that came out from China led to an International Expeditionary force being sent to give relief to those struggling towards the safety of 'Treaty ports'. Incredible story of English Missionaries trapped in China during the Boxer rebellion in 1900. The large group attempted to flee the country after an edict was passed that all foreigners that remained would be executed. However, they were 1000 miles from safety and had to make the journey in carts and on foot. They were threatened, persecuted and attacked at every turn and some of the group died. The conditions were unbearable but they thanked God for the small blessings; a crust of bread here and there, and with this attitude of praise they eventually made it to safety.

I have read this book before and in re-reading was again challenged by the lack of complaints from members of the group, even the very young children and their total trust in God to supply their needs and protect them. The trivial things that most of us complain about pale into insignificance in comparison...this book reads like a modern version of the Book of Job!

Recommended for all Christian's especially those going through trials as a reminder that it could be worse! ( )
