I was a big fan of Adventures in Odyssey growing up, despite living in England, my mum somehow managed to get hold of the cassettes and we listened to them repeatedly. I recently gave The Imagination Station series to my six year old nephew who loves it....so I started reading this series to see if it would be any good for him.

Thinking from the perspective of a child which should be more difficult than it is....the story in this first book of the series was just okay. It is about a town called Kidsboro created by the kids themselves. The disappointing thing for me was that there was virtually no Christian content. At one point the main character who is narrating the story mentions that he became a Christian a year after arriving in Kidsboro, but that is the only mention of God. I guess there are some life lessons in the story but not spiritual ones. If you take the spiritual content away then you have a mediocre book competing against the likes of Enid Blyton or the modern equivalent. Not really much of a contest. Kids Christian fiction writers really need to sharpen up if they want to attract more readers.

This was disappointing in terms of the story, but clean and harmless so I will recommend it if your kids like the Odyssey series. ( )
