I was pleasantly surprised by "Menkui". The word "menkui" is defined (in the manga) as 'a sucker for a pretty face'. I thought a book about one person's shallow interest in looks would not be very entertaining. However, I picked it up at the bookstore and when I began reading, I changed my opinion. The main character is quite humble and charming. While he is attracted to a pretty face, there is quite a bit more to his personality and he is not stupidly shallow.

The story begins with the main character, Karasawa, coming home from school and finding a bishonen standing outside his house. He jumps to the conclusion this person, Akaiwa, has come to visit his infamous older brother. Karasawa's brother is gorgeous and attracts admirers of both genders on a regualar basis. Of course, Akaiwa came to visit Karasawa and not his brother. The rest is a sweet shonen-ai story, continued in two more volumes.

Two-thirds of this book is devoted to the main story and the extra stories were marginally entertaining. ( )
