A series I started around 1993 when the last of the first four came out. Luckily, I didn't read copies of the redacted versions of the first two books (according to Wikipedia, the publishers found some of the themes objectionable). What I liked most about this series from the start was its nearness to our own time. In fact, by now (July 2008) it IS our time. It's supposed to be the 21st century and the technology the humans use against the invasion is very much in line with our times. The next thing I liked is the way the Chtorr go about invading Earth. Rather than attacking us, they attempt to take over our ecology. This may be Gerrold's main innovation in this creation, although The Day of the Triffids comes to mind, and H.G. Wells hinted at something similar in The War of the Worlds. Anyway, the way Gerrold presents it is unique. The books are a bit preachy at times, but this is far outweighed by Gerrold's innovative plotting and his positively weird presentation of human reaction to the invasion. I'm looking forward to the last three books! aucune critique | ajouter une critique
