Fiction. Thriller. HTML:

No one captures the true spirit of America like William W. Johnstone and J. A. Johnstone. Jacknife is their most pulse-pounding and timely thriller yet.

America Is Under Attack

And this time, it's not New York City or Washington.

A sleeper cell of Middle Eastern terrorists are targeting the heartland: an all-American superstore on opening day, right outside of Fort Worth, Texas. The day after Thanksgiving. As insurance, the terrorists have also hidden a suitcase nuke somewhere in the store which they plan to detonate??a strike fifty times worse than 9/11 that will paralyze America.

A Plot To Cripple The Country

Brad Parker is the lone American intelligence agent who uncovers the plot after a raid on a terrorist training camp in Pakistan. But Parker is one man up against the inept bureaucracy of Homeland Security and the State Department??who refuse to listen...and now it's too late.

They Call Him Jacknife

The only thing stopping the kill-crazy terrorists is already inside the superstore??a truck-driving, former Special Forces op named John "Jacknife" McCabe. He's where the perfect terror plan is about to blow apart. Because Jacknife won't go down without a fight. And with this guy as leader, the terrorists will find their way to paradise a lot sooner than they thin… (plus d'informations)

Politically, I’m a pretty black and white guy—I see things in a very conservative/liberal slant. Not necessarily a good way to be, but there it is. And “Jacknife,” by William M. Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone is exactly the same. And for some reason, that bugged the crap out of me.

“Jacknife” is about a terrorist plot to take over and blow up an “UltraMegaMart” with a dirty bomb in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. The US administration is stereotypically liberal while the FBI, special ops folks, and most of the regular Texans we meet along the way are conservative. The authors never write “Democrat” or “Republican.” Not sure why since the lines are drawn so obviously. And I’m not sure why they had to come up with a Wal-Mart version of their own in “UltraMegaMart” but they did.

Really not much happens in the book. A special ops guy in Pakistan gets intel on an upcoming terrorist strike in America, but is injured before he can get this info to his superiors. By the time he recovers enough, the attack is underway on the day after Thanksgiving at the brand new UltraMegaMart. One of the truck drivers for the company, a former special ops guy named John “Jacknife” McCabe is at the store (as are his wife and daughter) when it’s taken over by the terrorists. Killing, explosions, and lots of mini speeches ensue. There are also several gaps where the authors forgot something so some of the logic doesn’t quite flow well.

If you’re conservative, you’ll like the book well enough. If you’re a liberal, you won’t. Either way, I really wouldn’t recommend it much anyway. ( )
