Dan has trouble with his realisation that he's in love with his friend and there is more of a HFN than a HEA. Loved the angst, loved the sex, great story! ( ) I thought a book about a closted small town southern cop would have more smouldering heat to it, but this book because blatantly sexual pretty quickly. I didn't actually have a clear picture of Rich, who was 35, repressed, in love with Dan. And Dan, the eternal ladies man who never finds any woman perfect enough for him, well that pressed a few of my buttons too! Both these men felt younger than their age to me. And the evil ex girlfriend was such a caricature, she was just a plot device, not human at all. In fact the most adult person was Jeremy, Rich's not so ex, who was mature and quite lovely and I hope good things happen to him! So I will read Shayla Kersten again, but I would like it if her heros acted truer to their age, these boys felt like they were in their mid to late 20's, frankly I think figuring out you are gay at 34 shows a real lack of insight! This was my first book by this author, and I enjoyed it, sort of. It had some ok heat to it, which is always good, and some plot to go with it. I didn’t love the characters though. I had mixed feelings on both Rich and Dan. I felt Rich expected Dan to come around to being accepting and out pretty quickly for a guy who’d been straight all his life. I wasn’t all that jazzed about Rich getting frustrated and running off to Jeremy instead of fighting it out either. Jeremy was a good supporting character. I just plain felt sorry for him, but at least he took a risk and tried. I didn’t love Dan either. All his worrying about what everyone would think got a little tedious for me. I understand confused straight guy and all, but I would have liked to see him worry a little less about what everyone might think, confused or not. His attitude over Sharon just irritated me. He was supposed to despise her, but still thinks about them in bed, and seemed unable to really stand up to her. She was so infuriating I wanted to kill her myself! The biggest problem that I had was that after all the angst, the ending seemed unfinished. It needed something more to tie up all Dan’s worry over how the town may feel about he and Rich being gay.All and all it was an ok book. I’ll probably give another one of Shayla Kersten’s book a try. Maybe Jeremy will get a HEA. I’ve read a few of Shayla Kersten’s M/M stories and I just have to say that I like her better and better each time. While I do sometimes have slight technical issues with her writing - it can be somewhat stilted in the beginning of some of her works, but always smooths out after the first chapter or so - overall I have never failed to enjoy her books. This one is no exception.I found Rich and Dan to be very in-depth characters, both dealing (or not dealing) with issues in their lives, issues that really come to the forefront when Dan is injured on the job. Now, the basic plot device seems to be a pretty straight-forward “let’s get the gay guy and the straight guy into close proximity after a little dose of hurt/comfort and watch the sexing commence”, but it’s really not as cliched as all that. There’s angst, drama, unresolved sexual tension, a crazy southern gal, a small town, and two sexy cops you just want to cuff together and say “Enough with the emo, boys! Get it on!”I’d recommend this to anyone who has a yen for angst-ridden, small-town cops and emotional plot lines.http://iheartpaperbacks.wordpress.com Rich is a cop in the closet. He's kept his secret from Dan, his best friend whom he loves. When Dan is in an accident and needs Rich's help, he is right there to lend a helping hand. Dan fights his attraction to Rich, and an ex-girlfriend complicates the situation even more. The two men must overcome misunderstandings and fear in order to be truly happy.Kersten has written a sweet, entertaining story. I loved both Dan and Rich, and I was happy to learn after an Internet search that there's a book coming up for another character in the story. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
