A good read though, and the characters are very well written. ( ) Dropping the rating dramatically and removing from my home library because i finally reread this after like 10 years of having it on my shelf and it actually kinda sucks. I still have an appreciation for the overall story and feel nostalgically about several parts but other parts made me change the rating to one star (my "will physically fight this book" rating) First off, this book uses the word oriental to describe an Asian person...this book was published in the early 2000s...what the fuck? Also the narrator of the audiobook version gave said Asian character a super racist fake Japanese accent for some reason?! Absolute mess. Im kind of worried if I read the Artemis Fowl books again Im gonna find similar trash. This book also just doesnt make sense...its got random inconsistencies like the protagonist age (shes 12 when her mum dies but is 14 less than a year later when she dies?) and just gets a bit scrambled. i think the manuscript would have benefited from a competent editor who knows enough not to use outdated terms. On the surface it seemed like I should have loved this. Sarcastic teen troublemaker who dies and has to bargain for her soul? Sounds great. But something just fell flat for me. I didn't really like Meg. I hated Belch. Maybe it was the idea of heaven/hell and dying that sparked dislike. I don't know. I just know that I didn't really like it and the only saving grace was that it wasn't that long. 2 stars. Ágætis unglingasaga, eftir höfund bókanna um Artemis Fowl, sem byrjar á andláti unglingsstúlkunnar Meg við innbrot eftir að hafa leiðst út á refilstigu. Þegar hún er hins vegar á leið yfir móðuna miklu þá gefst henni hins vegar óvænt tækifæri á að bæta fyrir gjörðir sínar og sleppa þar með inn fyrir Gullna hliðið í stað þess að sökkva niður til Helvítis. Næstráðandi Satans er hins vegar ekki á því að sleppa henni svo létt og sendir sálnaveiðara á eftir henni. This book came as a suprise to me. I knew Colfer from his 'Artemis Fowl' serie, which was excellent, but really different than this. While this book concentrates more on psychological matters, Artemis Fowl was action and humour. The story is about a not so nice girl. When a man is killed - by her fault, I won't say more about that - she has to settle things with his soul. The man makes a wishlist of things he wants to do. If she doesn't obey him, something terrible will happen. So here they go: two archenemies on a journey. As you might guess: they have to get along or their mission will fail. This is the part which really is interesting. And fun to read. Both her and him have strong personalities and that gives funny situations. I would recommend this book to everybody who likes to read books. Because it's awesome. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Meg Finn is in trouble. She's dead, but not at peace--she's in limbo, her good deeds perfectly balanced against her bad deeds; Heaven or Hell wait, a tip of the scale away. So she's back on Earth trying to tip the scale to the good by helping her last victim, and her former "partner" is also back, trying to force her to tip the scale to the bad.
