A story of a boy who lets his own pride and need to be the best destroy the city in which he lives. This picture book follows the adventure of Illrya and her egotistical prince brother, Akros. This book is part of the many mythological stories of ancient Greece. The brother and sister journey to the island of Crete where they plan to take part in The Feast Games. This is where the trouble begins. Akros is a selfish person who only wants the Golden Axe to bring back to his home island. He undergoes trials and shall he fail them, his home island will be destroyed. Akros does not even contemplate the idea of his failure, and I think this makes him selfish. The characters in the book are only Illrya, Akros, and the Goddess. They are each interesting in their own way and I tended to like Illrya because she actually cares for her home island. The illustrations in the book were really good. They depicted what the it may have looked like during the ancient Greek time. The pictures also depict the script of the book really well. I was greatly disappointed in this book as a non-fiction work. The author states in the beginning that we do not know the meaning behind the artifacts, a golden ax and goddess statue. However, the story moves along giving a detailed story that may be misconstrued as fact. I absolutely would not use this book in a classroom as a non-fiction work. Perhaps, this book would be more appropriately labeled fiction. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
