I thought this was a cute book for a younger audience. This story takes the reader on a "walk through the jungle" where they learn about different animals and the sounds they make. I really enjoyed the beautiful illustrations because they were vibrant and colorful and really captured my attention. On the second page, the reader sees a lion with its mouth wide open as it lets out a "ROAR!" The only white on the page is the lion's teeth. The way the lion is positioned in front of everything else makes it appear especially big and mighty. I also liked the patterned language in the book. There are three types of pages in the book. One always starts with "Walking through the jungle, walking through the jungle, what do you see, what do you see?" The second page gives the sound that the animal makes, allowing the young reader to guess the animal. The third page reveals the animal and always includes "I think I see a _____, chasing after me." This pattern repeats for each animal throughout the book. The main idea of this story is to introduce children to the style of pattern as well as teach them about different jungle animals and the sounds that they make. ( )

I did like this book for it's repetitive and rhythmic sentences. For example, ".....through the jungle..." made me this of the same rhythm that the book "Brown bear" contained. And I found it interesting the way that it showed the sound of the animal on the page before so that you could take a guess before you flipped the page and figured out who the mysterious animal was. For example, "sssss" for snake and "chomp, chomp" for crocodile. It is a nice beginner book for young children to learn how to read and what animals make each sound. ( )

This books is appropriate for kindergartners and first graders. As a little boy travels through the jungle the rhyme sentences leave readers in suspense as to what animals in on the next page. Teachers can use this book in the classroom to introduce a lesson on Jungle animals and features. Students could also use this book to look at how rhyming occurs in books.

A perfect picture book for the very young: bright bold illustrations, repetition that is sung, a surprise ending. The library children and my own loved it ( )
