I enjoyed reading this book for two reasons. One reason is that the author included many things in the setting to actually make it seem like the characters were in DC. Since I've been to DC numerous times everything that was described was very accurate. For example, the author included information about the park ranger selling maps, the tourist being around DC and many of the signs that I recall when being there. I think that if a student was to go to DC after reading this novel they would really see it come to life. The second thing that I liked about the novel is that illustrations that were included enhanced the text. Although the illustrations are printed in black and white and are pretty dark they still assist the reader in imagining what the setting is like. The author included a illustration with Marshall and KC camping outside the monument which also had the white house in the background. This illustration can enhance readers knowledge of how close these two buildings are.
Overall this book was about KC and Marshall solving a mystery of the flashing lights that they saw in the white house while camping out. They take matters into their own hands to solve it. The book includes tons of facts about the Washington monument and it's history which makes it a great read. ( )
