This is a enjoyable narrative for young children about a cat named Oscar and a moth. It teaches children about different sources of light such as the sun, a lamp, fireflies, and other organisms. It also teaches about shadows. The book reviews the scientific content at the end that the book taught throughout.
I could use this book when teaching a science unit on light and dark and shadows. I could use it on a unit about the sun. Students could model how the sun and stars provide light to the earth at different times. Students could present on the differences between different sources of light. ( )
