Marking the return of many characters from Gardens of the Moon and introducing a host of remarkable new players, Memories of Ice is both a momentous new chapter in Steven Erikson's magnificent epic fantasy and a triumph of storytelling.
/> The ravaged continent of Genabackis has given birth to a terrifying new empire: the Pannion Domin. Like a tide of corrupted blood, it seethes across the land, devouring all. In its path stands an uneasy alliance: Onearm's army and Whiskeyjack's Bridgeburners alongside their enemies of oldâ??the forces of the Warlord Caladan Brood, Anomander Rake and his Tiste Andii mages, and the Rhivi people of the plains. This series may ruin all other epic fantasy novels. The world is so well-realized with thousands of years of history which affects the current world in a way that most fantasy novels don't bother doing more than giving passing mention. ( )
wow I thought Deadhouse gates was sad, this was so much worse. Crushing ending that then makes you read through another hundred pages of nothing but death and death and more death. Parts of it drag on, and Erikson seems to love brute forcing context and situational awareness that not all these characters should probably have, but it builds up to something great and ended up delivering so it gets the full 5 stars regardless.
This is an entertaining book, but I don't buy into all the hype. Really, the quality is not there, I didn't feel the urge to continue reading anytime. I'd like to give it four stars, but for entertainment it isn't enough. Also, the end of the book is not as good as the previous. ( )
