So good I will have to eviscerate it in my dissertation. It is a very very good interpretation of what Aristotle means by "character," especially insofar as it takes into account Aristotle's nuanced concept of prohairesis (roughly, choices that reveal character), and concludes--correctly IMHO--that good deliberation will always entail the coordination between emotions and reason. The author argues that traditional conceptions of Aristotelian habituation have ignored the critical role of practical reason in both the development of virtue and the emotions constitutive of virtue. Virtue is, thus, neither the product of mindless drill nor of well-behaved, but ultimately stupid emotions. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
