Smartly written book examining several American celebrities and one notorious psychopath. Actually the book is a travelogue but without the condescending need to juxtapose everything as diametrically opposite for effect. The author moves from media ephemera surrounding celebrities to people's bizarre need to be physically close to those whom they pay homage to. This quirky physicality is taken to be the essence of the "real person" sought after by fans, individually meaningful for each adherent. In most cases, these fans are attempting to turn back historical time which unjustly erases the light of fame or historical significance. Examines Gone with the Wind, Marilyn Monroe, Ed Gein, James Dean, Elvis, Valentino, JFK. ( ) aucune critique | ajouter une critique
This is an account of Andy Bull's travels across America to find out why the world is obsessed with icons like Marilyn, Elvis, J.F.K. and James Dean. He also meets with their followers, some of whom are more bizarre than the stars themselves. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
