In 1950, a young couple, Lambert and Doris Anderson, entered an isolated village deep in the jungle of Peru to begin the arduous task of learning a complicated, tonal language spoken by the Ticunas and translating the Bible into their language. Translators with Wycliffe Bible Translators, they began a 21 year adventure and watched the transformation of a community from one of lawlessness, abuse of children and wives, drunkenness, early death and debilitating superstition into a community with schools for children and adults, electricity, medical care, a sawmill employing men in the town, a church and a translated Bible to guide. One of the Indian leaders wrote years later, "You won't know the place. God has been demonstrating his power to us, and practically all the people are following him. I know of only three families on the lake who aren't believers. And we never hear of a drunken party. We have a real unity among the believers--they consider one another brothers and sisters in the Lord and are really willing to help each other when there's a need." An inspiring and elucidating tale of what it takes to bring deep transformation of a people. ( ) aucune critique | ajouter une critique
