HEROISM: IN THE AIR AND ABOVE THE SEA Their mission is to hunt, track and if necessary kill enemy submarines and surface ships. Known as "Sub Chasers," these American Naval flight crews are in the air 24/7 flying their P-3 Orions keeping our country safe. This is the riveting story of Orion Squadron Commander Captain Edward M. Brittingham, a table of warfare at sea and the air wing branch of the US Navy.
I was in the Navy for some 35 years, and applaud Captain Brittingham's dedicated service and ASW expertise. I joined the Navy in 1960 and trained ASW crews on equipment ( tactics, crew coordination, and emergency procedures in the WST and OFT (explained in the book) on P2V-5, P2V-7 and P5M aircraft. After a Navy Scholarship, and various training commands (explained in the book) including Survival, Escape and Evasion (SERE), I reported to my first P3A squadron at NAS Jacksonville in 1970, some 8 years later than Captain Brittingham.
