This degenerated from silly but cute to just plain old stupid. The plot is an unnecessarily convoluted and nonsensical plot that somehow injects terrorists and mobsters and FBI and CIA and money laundering and stolen ancient artifacts into a Romance. Maybe it’s being purposefully meta, since that’s apparently what’s happened to the hot mess of a movie that our heroine has been hired to finish.

This heroine and her hero, ugh. She knows the guy for all of three days, and hasn’t even slept with him, thinks he doesn’t even have any romantic or sexual interest in her at all, but she’s considering moving herself and her family from NY & LA, respectively, to a swamp in Florida so he can be a part of her life. Then she just literally walks into a swamp in the dark in hopes of finding him so she can have sex with him. And she does! And they do! And it’s awesome! No bugs or anything.

I think it was at this point that I got so frustrated with this story, and cared so little about the characters or what happened to them, that it took real willpower to power on to the end rather than DNFing. I got through it by cheering on the alligator.

Hardcover version. I read this for the 2017 Booklikes-opoly square Cars Land 18: Read a book that was published in 2006, 2011, 2013, or 2014, the years of Cars and its sequels, or that has a car on the cover. This book was published in 2006.

A perfect blend of romance novel and action movie with a kid obsessed with Wonder Woman who’s hard not to love. Very snappy lines and thoroughly entertaining with a great cast. I can’t think of anything not to enjoy. This is the first Crusie book I’ve read where the author writes with Bob Mayer, but I will happily read the others. ( )

This was not the best of books by Jennifer Crusie. The main character was way too whimpy. I couldn't stand that she had known JT THREE days and was already in love with him. That she expected commitment so soon after their first time having sex.

There were so many plot holes in the story as well. It was written in cohort with Bob Mayer. He wrote JT's perspective and it was like two worlds colliding. The girly, someone save me side. With JT's roughness and badass-ness. It was not written well together.

The sex scenes were unnecessary and actually deterred from the plot. I think that the story would have been a lot better without the love aspect. I liked the idea of a movie being a front for the Russian mob trying to get money and jade antiques from the Mexico and back into the Russian hands.

All in all this book was okay. I much preferred their other book that they wrote together Agnes and The Hitman. ( )

I have loved (or really liked) just about all of Jennifer Crusie's books. Her collaboration with Bob Mayer has been gold. Bob adds an excitement and male perspective that really enhances the story. Through the characters' back-and-forth exchanges you can almost hear the back-and-forth that probably goes on between Jenny & Bob. ( )

Re-read this in 2019 from CPL. Didn't remember it at all but it is still an amusing book. I enjoyed the second read. Both the hero and heroine were strong characters and there was a charming child. This was more of an action book than a mystery. The action was sustained through the book and the romance was semi-believable. Only semi because things happened so fast, within days.
