I really loved Remembrance by Bob Smith. So, it was normal for me to have a high expectation of Selfish and Perverse. Definitely a worthy book to own and to read. Some lines got me chuckled. This book got the slutty gay character, the lack of self-confidence, the determined, the romantic and more.

The strange part was that it could be seen whom Nelson's perfect partner was. To drag Dylan to the end of the book was strange. In fact, the scene before Dylan's trouble was puzzling. It was clear cut that Nelson was already upset.. so, why the need to put Nelson in a situation where he would be submissive to Dylan's advances?

Would love to give this book a 5-star but the last plot turned me off. How dumb could Nelson be? ( )

I loved the first line of this:

"Love at first sight makes perfect sense because we're all pressed for time."

And it was kind of fun for a while, but let me give some advice to all you aspiring novelists out there--unless you are Michael Chabon, do not write a novel about writing (or not writing) a novel. I know, write what you know, right? But go learn about something else and write about that instead. I'm serious. Nobody cares. ( )

Nelson works as a script supervisor in LA, hoping to finish his own novel and hoping to find a boy friend. Well, he even meets two guys, one hot, the other one real boy friend material. To make his life worse, he gets fired, gets stuck in a tar pit and leaves for Alaska... with both guys. This is not only a weird plot, but also an ultimately funny one with a lot of insights. Bob Smith knows men and shows it. That not only makes for a fun read that brings tears to your eyes, but this is also an amazing story with real human beings, interacting, fighting, loving, laughing and struggling for the important things in life.
´When you think about it, and I did often, storytelling is a skill that everyone needs to develop. In every couple, both parties need to take turns as Scheherazade and learn to hold each other´s interest as if their life together depended upon it.´
´When Roy was angry or in a bad mood, he became stealthily quiet, an assassin choking his words from behind. On the other hand, perhaps he was communicating with me, since the simplest method of telling someone exactly how you feel is to make that person feel as shitty as you do.´
´Most penises are like actors; when they´re not performing, it´s hard to believe they possess any talent whatsoever.´ ( )
