Truth be told - it's a page turner... I have waited for the next Baker Somerset mystery with the impatience and eagerness of a devoted reader which I am - I loved the first two books in this series. Baker Somerset, the indefatigable and feisty private detective, has been on my mind since Max Folsom introduced us to the only female detective in Ottawa - and not just a capable one, but one who is truly appealing in a humane way: strong yet vulnerable, with the wittiest sense of humor and total dedication to her profession.

And now, in this third mystery, she is back with one of her most intricate (and dangerous!) assignments ever. Baker's small and tight group of friends/helpers is back in this novel too, and we marvel at their top notch cohesiveness and harmony in the face of the most perilous events imaginable.

On top of a missing persons case, it's a historical puzzle to solve. And without revealing the plot, let me just say that the history in question here is the Second World War and that the author offers a theory on some things that were happening then and afterwards - a theory that's food for thought (!).

And last but not least, I love how the story line is totally unpredictable here. A great read! ( )
