This book was a little bit of a struggle for me. As another person with ADHD, I struggle when authors go off on tangents and become distracted from the characters/plot/story. This was the case for me in An Odd Undertaking. That being said, I have friends who love stream of consciousness writing (like Chuck Klosterman).
Like others have said, the childhood through teen years sections were challenging to read and I wish I would have skipped them, because once getting though them I had trouble caring about reading the rest of the book. I wish an editor had either cut these parts out of whittled them down to much, much shorter. That being said, I feel like this book would have benefited from being considerably shorter and not as verbose.
I initially grabbed this book as I am very interested in the job of an undertaker, and all that it entails. I can see this being an incredibly interesting book to those who do not mind Wood's writing style.
This was a 2.5 for me rounded up to 3, as I don't feel like I can adequately judge stream of consciousness/tangential writing. (
